“It’s okay – all the best documentaries are made up of footage captured over ten years.”
- John Roderick
Another self-imposed deadline was broken. Three years and over one hundred hours of footage after beginning the project, there was 4 hours of rough cut and no end in sight, yet somehow hearing this has made it all okay.
Through With Love is a documentary film about The Long Winters, an indie-rock band from Seattle, Washington and their frontman, John Roderick.
He was in a band called the Western State Hurricanes in the late 1990’s, and everything was going so well before it all fell apart in dramatic, public fashion. The band’s break-up during the peak of their popularity was a catalyst for John’s five month walk from Amsterdam to Istanbul. Returning to Seattle bearded and emaciated, he vowed never to play music again.
This film will tell a compelling story of self-destruction and resignation, of ambition and second chances, and of burned bridges and taking the long way around.
Filming Through With Love began in November of 2005 as The Long Winters recorded their latest release, Putting the Days to Bed. For three months, Adam and Jace filmed at Studio Litho, capturing the creativity, frustration, and monotony of recording the album. Add to this footage from the dozens of live performances and interviews and the result is a film coalescing into a singular music documentary experience.
